
Dr. Luan is currently the Chairman and CEO of JWC Lab Vietnam Inc. He is also the CEO of UZip Inc; which provides open platform solutions to solve last-mile logistics challenges in major US cities through the use of technologies such as Drones/AUVs, Personal Air Vehicles (PAVs), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, IoT, Augmented Reality (AR) and Blockchain in online digital currencies. He has served as the Vice President of External Relations of the American University in Vietnam (AUV), the first and only non-profit American university in Da Nang, Vietnam. This is an organization that provides quality American education at reasonable tuition fees to meet the changing needs of Asia Pacific countries, with the motto “Learn today, lead tomorrow with social values.” He also co-founded and invested in several companies such as Streaming Curiosity Inc., which developed new core software for Augmented Reality technology. From 2011 to 2013, he was an executive partner of Amland Group and successfully implemented the largest LED conversion project for the city of Oakland, California. Technically, Dr. Luan is an expert in Drone/AUV, Personal Aircraft (PAV), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, IoT, Augmented Reality (AR), Blockchain, renewable energy and storage engineering, cloud computing, distributed computing, computer architecture, information technology (IT), and customer service. During his 26 years (16 years with IBM Corp; 1997-2000 CTO at IBM Global Service) working at large corporations in the business consulting field, Dr. Nguyen has headed many consulting and research activities worldwide. Dr. Nguyen is also the co-founder of Web Office Inc. Under his leadership as Chairman and CEO of the company, in August 2003, the Company received the Export Achievement Award from the US Department of Commerce. Web Office Inc. products have also received a 4-star award from PC Magazine in the United States and are sold in the United States, Japan, Germany, Türkiye, Singapore, and Korea, such as EncryptedEye™, VPSN™, and SDATS™ (Asset Surveillance Security System – RFID Solution). Dr. Nguyen’s strong success is based on his focus on business strategy, engineering and implementation of business solutions and customer service systems, customer orientation, building excellent teams, and focusing on executing defined business strategies. Dr. Luan is a professor at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, and at the University of Texas Graduate School of Computer Science. He is also a member of the Keller Graduate School of Business and the Chair of the Department of Electronic Computer Technology (ECET) and Network Computer Management (NCM) at DeVry University, Austin, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts (EE) in Electrical Engineering (EE) from the University of Oklahoma in 1984. While continuing to gain industry experience, he earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and 1989, respectively. In 1993, he also received his Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of UT ECE in 1995. In his community service and international business studies, he has been an active advisor to the Austin Council on World Affairs in the USA and the Texas-EU Summit since 2013 (https://wacaustin.org/tx-eu-summit/) along with other Trade Commissioners and Consuls General. Since 2013, Dr. Nguyen has been nominated as one of the IC2 Fellows of the University of Texas at Austin. The IC2 Institute is a global community of creative and innovative leaders from academia, business, and government (https://ic2.utexas.edu/events/fellows-2013/) with 180 active Fellows from 14 countries. Dr. Nguyen is also an active philanthropist. He has supported many non-profit organizations and is one of the founding board members of the International Liver Foundation in Vietnam.
